Well, we have come to the end of the WS-I Plenary meeting, and overall some very good progress was achieved. There were some heated and passionate discussions in the Basic Profile working group, which almost turned into full scale bun-fights at various points over the contentious subjects of "conditional headers", attachements and "meta profiles" and conformance. However, a suitable compromise was arrived at through further discussion over beers, and a good working solution was agreed on all items.
This is one thing that has constantly surprised me about the WS-I Organization - while there are many different participants with many different agendas, there is still a very strong desire from all participants to reach a solid and dependable interoperability framework that will serve the best interests of the industry. Even the "big players" are prepared to make consessions to achive this, which makes me comfortable that web services technology has a good future ahead of it.
The finalised version of the Basic Profile document is taking shape well, and we are now down to just 4 real issues to resolve in the next few weeks.
