Well, I've just done something that will totally change my
life forever!
This weekend I signed and returned my acceptance of a job offer as a Program
Manager for XML Web Services at Microsoft in Redmond.
I will be moving to Redmond and working alongside a great set of people, including Don, Tim, Keith, Yasser, Jeff, Gudge, and loads of other people I have yet to meet or have forgotten to mention.
In my view there are two companies that really "get" all
this XML stuff - Cape Clear is one of
them, and Microsoft is the other.?
What has Microsoft got to offer that Cape Clear doesn't?
- In one word "Redmond".
Redmond / Seattle
are one of the few places I have traveled to in the USA where I immediately
thought "I'd really like to live here". This was reinforced for me on every
visit since then and on my recent
visit to Sweden too. The quality of life is good, the scenery is good, the
housing is affordable, the weather is very similar to London, and the
population and housing density speaks for itself.
It was a tough decision, and in the end my reasons for leaving Cape Clear are largely based on personal factors - primarily by the opportunity to relocate to a part of the USA I really love, and work towards permanent residence status for me and my family. As such, this offer represents the opportunity of a lifetime to me, and is not something I can turn down.
It is with regret that I leave Cape Clear, but I am very confident Annrai and the gang will
continue to grow the company into one of the key suppliers in the XML
Infrastructure marketplace during the coming years.
I have enjoyed my time here, have learned a lot along the way, and I count
myself lucky to have had the opportunity to work alongside this great team of
people during the past 3 years.
So, I will very shortly be relocating with my family to the USA, once all the paperwork is sorted out. A move like this is a good time to "reboot your life" and clear out many of the dusty corners and general cruft that builds up over the years. Watch this space...
