House 4.0

house 4.0 Despite all the best efforts of the UK house selling system to prevent it, we finally managed to close on our house sale in the UK yesterday. This was just in time for a frantic rush to chase the proceeds half way round the world through the international funds transfer networks to meet our deadline on closing on our house purchase in the USA today.

As a mark of the crazy way the UK legal system works, we found a buyer within the first week the property was on the market, and the buyer was first time buyer with a relatively simple mortgage situation and no chain of properties to sell, yet it still has managed to take 3 months for the sale to go through! The really crazy thing is that nothing was legally binding on either party until the sale actually completed yesterday - so it's basically all or nothing. I have no intention of ever going back to that system if I can possibly avoid it!

However, putting that all behind us, we are now the proud owners of a great 3840 sq foot house on a really good estate in Redmond, just down the street from one of the Architects of Indigo and a few other MicroSofties too.

Now we have to buy some extra items to fill the additional rooms while we wait for all our furniture to catch up with us - the surface shipment is due mid December.
