The Myth of Open Systems

Tony Baer makes some interesting observations on the reality behind the old "open systems" buzz word, and the place of web services to deliver on that goal.

Forget about "open". Everybody's products are open to a point. Instead, think interoperability, which is exactly why vendors are coalescing around web services.
