Introducing Windows Live Writer

Windows Live Writer is a brand new desktop application that makes it easier to compose compelling blog posts using any popular blog service.

The beta release is available for download now on

I've been using an internal pre-release copy for some time, and I really like it. It's straight forward, very functional, and focused exclusively on the features and functionality that bloggers need, including:

  • WYSIWYG Authoring
  • Photo Publishing
  • Map Publishing
  • Plug-in SDK

The Windows Live Writer SDK is also available allowing developers to extend the capabilities of Writer to publish additional content types. Examples of content types that can be added include:

  1. Images from online photo publishing sites
  2. Embedded video or audio players
  3. Product thumbnails and/or links from e-commerce sites
  4. Tags from tagging services

More details are on the Writer Zone - the Windows Live Writer team blog.
